The WW2 Escape Lines Memorial Society; Registered Charity No: 1148116

Charitable Objectives

The WW2 Escape Lines Memorial Society (ELMS) is dedicated to the memory of the helpers and the escape lines of WW2, and to the escapers and evaders who were assisted by them.

The helpers assisted Allied servicemen of many nationalities, and others under the threat of persecution, by sheltering, feeding, nursing and guiding them back to safety.

Our membership is international. Initially it comprised the veterans, escapers, evaders and helpers themselves, but sadly most are no longer with us. Today, members include descendants of the original helpers and supporters, historians, researchers and others interested in our aims.

Our charitable objectives are:

  1. To promote good citizenship and the education of the public in the history of the escape lines through educational and remembrance activities, including:
    • The maintenance and dissemination of information held in the collective archives of ELMS members;
    • Talks and visits to educational and other organisations;
    • The staging of various remembrance activities, including tutorial walks (our ‘Walking Memorials’) along escape line routes
  2. The relief and assistance of any helper members who are now in need themselves as a result of their wartime activities.
