The Basque Pyrenees Freedom Trails Association [Euskal Pirinioak Askatasun Bideak Elkartea] is a not-for-profit organisation based in the Basque Country, which preserves the wartime escape routes crossing the western Pyrenees.
The Basque Pyrenees Freedom Trails Association [Euskal Pirinioak Askatasun Bideak Elkartea] is a not-for-profit organisation based in the Basque Country, which preserves the wartime escape routes crossing the western Pyrenees.
Working with ELMS and local municipalities, the association organises annual commemorations that follow the footsteps of Allied aircrew, resistants and Basque guides who shepherded people across the Basque Pyrenees from 1940 – 1944.
The association organises walks along various routes taken by guides and evaders, each route a ‘walking tutorial’ with specific local historical significance, and in commemoration of local ‘helper families’.
In addition, the association has strong links to cultural and educational activities, locally, nationally and internationally.
