With SOE in Greece by Pat Evans

Pat Evans was selected by SOE for his language skills and deep knowledge of Greece. Parachuted into northern Greece in September 1943, he supported Resistance groups with sabotage operations, intelligence gathering and coordination with Cairo.

Evans had to navigate more than the enemy. Rival political factions, the ELAS, Macedonian nationalists and Allied directives all collided, forcing him to broker fragile ceasefires while running covert raids. His post-liberation mission to stabilise the region during the civil war proved just as hazardous.

Evans later struggled to adjust to civilian life—a reminder of the personal toll on SOE veterans. The memoir offers rare insight into Greek operations.
